Breaking News from PlastX!
After successfully piloting in Noida, India in 2020, PlastX will collaborate with a Global Waste Management Giant
(sorry, we can’t tell you who just yet) to undertake a crucial second pilot program - this time in Thailand – with the view to commercialise and scale.
The project, which will commence in Quarter 1, 2022 aims to collect up to 22,000 tonnes of soft plastic waste annually, for processing at a state-of-the-art facility in Bang Phli, Bangkok.
PlastX CEO, Trish Hyde said of the collaboration: "The signing of this agreement with an industry player of such standing is a significant step forward for our team, and for Plastic Circular Economy generally. This program will remove difficult-to-recycle soft plastics - such as shopping bags - from the local environment and process them back into usable R-Plastic resins – reducing the need for virgin plastic.”
The secret sauce in the PlastX Supply Chain solution is a smartphone app that allows companies requiring Post-Consumer Recovered (PCR) plastics to directly connect with collectors (often from the informal network) – eliminating networks of middlemen, and streamlining the supply chain.
“As a result,” Trish said, “PlastX will improve the earnings of some of Bangkok's 1.24m informal plastic collectors by as much as 50%.”
A Thai language version of the PlastX app is currently in advanced development.
